How to play a DVD when using Ubuntu Gutsy.
Everything else works great.
But no DVD.
Is there a plug-in ?
Or do I need to change something in the settings?

DVD playback is not supported yet. One could make a player engine using seamless for instance.

The Fluendo DVD player is not finished yet but it's been tested internally and works quite well.

Depends whether some developer tackle a plugin using seamless or another open-source implementation. We currently have no ETA (AFAIK) on the DVD plugin, it first needs to be validated by the DVD consortium

Why is this listed as a feature at http://elisa.fluendo.com/features/ then?

Absolutely right sciurus. This is referring to an experimental support that does not exist anymore unfortunately. We'll remove it right away.

As I can see elisa 0.3.3 installation still provides the DVD plugin. How can it be activated?

It can't. It depends on unreleased code. The plugin has been removed in recent release because it's useless without that yet-to-be-released code

http://overlays.gentoo.org/dev/dang/bro ... 3.3.ebuild

Code: Select all
dvd? (
                   media-libs/libdvdcss
                   >=media-plugins/gst-plugins-ffmpeg-0.10
                   >=media-libs/gst-plugins-bad-0.10
                   >=media-libs/gst-plugins-ugly-0.10
                   dev-python/tagpy

There was a module in the source back in revision 4740 (https://code.fluendo.com/elisa/trac/bro ... /?rev=4740) but it was deleted due to dubious legality?

It would be possible to implement something similar using the MediaProvider or PlayerEngine plugin interfaces. Presumably this is what Fluendo have cooking for us. :-)

castor: GStreamer and its bundles provide already some DVD playback support but menus and various other features of DVDs are not supported.

sj26: You're right, we'll provide a new player_engine depending on the Fluendo DVD player, when it's ready

Nope, we have no Elisa DVD playback anymore, we know it's possible (we already did it some months ago as you know) but since the Fluendo DVD player is not ready yet, we can't really work on the Elisa plugin.

Closing this topic now, stay tuned guys :)
