FAQ

Why does Moovida 2.0 provide 2 UIs?

Moovida 2.0 offers a complete media solution optimized for the screen of your choice, whether desktop/laptop or tv, whereas standalone media centers and desktop apps tend to lack in functionality, providing a limited user experience. While working on Moovida 1.0, it was clear that media center usability had certain drawbacks, especially when it came to manipulating file information such as creating playlists, managing and editing files - actions that can be performed more quickly on a flexible desktop app. Our focus is still the media center environment, however, when complimented by a flexible desktop app, we believe the media center user experience is far superior.

How do I import media in Moovida Core?

From the Moovida Core menu: Media > Import Media. Here you can choose the folders from your PC or network that you want to include in your music or video list.

How can I rename a movie file in Moovida?

Moovida 2.0 allows you to change the file details directly from the application. Just right click on the file you want to change, go to Movie Title and Properties > Search Title, then select from one of the generated suggestions.

When I delete a folder from Moovida, is it also deleted in my files?

Moovida only shows your files, it does not change anything in your original files. In order to delete files from your media library, you need to remove them in your own tree in your computer.

Can I use Moovida as a server for my Playstation or Xbox360?

Not for the moment. Moovida only functions as a stand-alone player of your media. Just like your game system, Moovida can read information over your network, but it does not act as a media server. However, we recommend connecting your Moovida powered computer to your TV and enjoy your media that way. The Moovida Immersed extension is specifically designed for this TV navigation with a remote control.

How can I use my iPod with Moovida?

Using an iPod or other external device is really easy, it's just plug and play. When you connect a new device you can add it from Menu > Menu > Import Media. It will show up in your list of sources and you can add them to your library.

Why is Moovida Core based on Banshee?

As a popular open source project, Banshee constituted the perfect fit for a Moovida desktop application, while also benefitting from an active developer community. Banshee fulfills all the feature requirements we were looking for, in a faster programing language, while providing a solid cross platform app. We were thrilled to learn that Banshee was open to the collaboration.

Is Moovida going to contribute its changes to Banshee?

All bug fixes and video playback improvements directly related to Banshee are contributed back to the project.

How can I contribute to the project?

Moovida Core benefits from all Banshee contributions, so we encourage you to participate in the project either by filing or fixing bugs, translating, coding or creating extensions. We will also include documentation for contributions to Moovida Immersed, once available.

Will the Diesel Engine become open source?

The Diesel Engine we use is proprietary, which is why it will not be available as open source.

Why doesn't Moovida ship Banshee ‘as is’ for the desktop UI?

The changes that we are bringing to the original Banshee app does include a few features that are unique to Moovida Core, with the skin as the most obvious example. In order to have more control over the direction of the desktop interface, we are packaging it as a Moovida product, especially since it serves as a backend to the media center extension.

When will Moovida Immersed be available?
